Being a Chameleon and Other C Words

Upcoming Book

The Concealment (working title)

An upcoming nonfiction book

I am currently writing a nonfiction book that challenges the dominant narrative of adoption as a purely positive solution.

As a Baby Scoop Era adoptee, I was born into a system built on secrecy, identity erasure, and the silencing of both mothers and children. My biological father was never told about me, and my early history was reduced to a single document. The rest was withheld.

The Concealment weaves personal narrative with trauma-informed insight and cultural critique to explore the lifelong psychological and identity impacts of early separation. It examines how adoption, particularly during the Baby Scoop Era, was shaped by social pressure, gender expectations, and the control of women’s bodies, while often leaving adoptees without access to truth, history, or voice.

This work is an extension of my broader social media platform as The Adopted Chameleon, where I educate and speak about adoptee experiences, trauma, and nervous system regulation. Through both writing and teaching, I aim to bring greater awareness to the complexities of adoption and the long-term effects of early relational disruption.

This is an in-progress project. More details will be shared as the book develops.
